who am I?

..Hello, my name's Jan Maly, born in 1984 in Vranov nad Toplou, Slovakia. I live in Scotland since 2012 where I pursue my art career and work as a tattooist at Kaizen Tattoos & piercing in Cumbernauld.

Art and drawing was was part of my life from early age. I visited and finished primary art school (National after-school programs for primary school students covering performing arts and fine arts ending with it’s graduation). In 2000- 2004 I studied commercial art at ZSUS (Zdruzena Stredna Umelecka Skola- Secondary school of arts) in Presov, Slovakia.

High school with it’s art subjects consisting of theory such as history of art, art and material technologies and practical subjects covering composition, still-life, figure drawing, learning to use traditional art techniques, commercial design and digital, graphic design. After finishing high school I decided to join the work force, didn’t carry on with any higher education. Went through a variety of jobs till eventually trying tattooing for the first time in early 2008. I became professional tattooist in 2009. Opened my own tattoo studio in my hometown in 2009 which I ran for 2 years. After that I left professional tattooing until November 2015 when I started tattooing in Scotland and I do so to these days.

During all years I worked in various jobs I used my free-time to draw and paint, experimenting with different ideas and strategies how to start up my professional art career, finding and developing my own style(s) which got me eventually here.

Rest of any free time I have I spend either outdoors or with my family.
